 Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is one of the most popular destinations in eastern Europe. Built on a river, this charming and romantic city is much beloved by artists, photographers, visitors and historians. The Czech Republic’s beautiful capital has been referred to as an outdoor museum since its architecture and historic center remains as it did 600 years ago, untouched by war. Prague is a city easily explored on foot as all of the attractions, including the Castle District and the Old and New Town, are a quick stroll from the city’s center. The city is also very popular for its music and art scene which offers a variety of musical events such as classical concerts, opera and ballet, as well as for its many museums and art galleries.

“Great view into history”

Museum of Communism

We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. It took about an hour to an hour and 1/2 to go through and read all the signs and look at the displays. The signs were in 6 languages. Though the space itself wasn't as big as some traditional museums, they really spaced everything well and it helped you see the journey the people of the czech republic have gone through all these years.

It really gave me a better appreciation for the history of the city I was in and for what communism did to stifle the people. It made me walk through Wencelsas square with a different awareness of all the history it'd been through. Sit down and stay for the video, the one I saw was great, though I heard they change them out occasionally.

Plus the cards in the gift shop were hilarious. In addition to the poster in my pictures, they had some great one liners like:

Poster ad of smiley girl with detergent in her hand:
"Sure you can't get any laundry soap at the store, but you can have your Brainwashed!"

or another one:
"We didn't have any toilet paper in the factories, but it didn't matter because there wasn't any food either"

It was a creative tribute to a sad time but I came out of it with hope and new perspective. Much more than I can say about other museums!
